Fractured Fryday Hairy Tails ...

So the other day my mom loaded me up in the pup-mobile and we headed out on an adventure.  I was TOTALLY PSYCHED when we arrive at the big giant stinky park not too far from our house.

Then I realized that mom had her camera with her.

Then I realized it was going to be one of those kind of adventures -- the kind where my walk turns into mom's photography practice session.

Allow me to introduce you to my "balance" pose.

It was one of many strange positions she tried to get me in.  I'll spare you the details.

Just when I thought things couldn't get worse, mom reminded me that our next photo shoot would be one like this:

Yep, puppers.  Costume season is upon us.

I suggest you start practicing your costume extrication maneuvers now, puppers.

Go ahead and start practicing now.

I thought it was taco day. Apparently I was wrong. Again. Go Figure.

Oh, dawg, puppers.  Last night my mom was just chopping and chopping and chopping and I was FOR SURE that it was FINALLY taco day and she was chopping up all the fixings.

It turned out to be steak night.  Or some kind of steak rolled around veggies night.  Or something.  Something that was clearly NOT tacos.  And something that did not even come close to being a taco.  Or to being mine, by the way.

Mom swears taco day is soon.  Not soon enough as far as I am concerned.  Just saying.

Oh, my aching head ...

Thank heavens it is Silent Sunday.

According to Ranger’s calendar, it is also World Gratitude Day.

Personally, after yesterday’s all day Oktoberfest Partython, I am grateful for aspirin and dark quiet spaces.

Anybody else hungover?

Whew.  That was EPIK.

Enjoy your nap, puppers.

Enjoy your nap.

You have GOT TO BE KIDDING ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Duncan:            You HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME MOM!!!
Mom:                Insert  huh?  look here ….
Duncan:            You seriously want me to walk around all day with these floor cleaners on my paws to help you finish your chores????
Mom:                Yup.
Duncan:            I repeat … YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!!
Mom:                Turnabout is fair play, D.
Duncan:            What in the world are you talking about?
Mom:                I help you write the blog, you help me clean the floors.
Duncan:            Nobody in blogville can see our floors, mom.
Mom:                D, where do you sleep every night?  Pee inside the house lately?
Duncan:            There has got to be a better way ….
Duncan:            She has totally lost her mind ..
Duncan:            Will there be treats involved?

We can't go on this way ....

Duncan:     Mom, we need to talk.

Mom:         About what, D?

Duncan:     About how you kind of are not very organized anymore.

Mom:        Yeah.  Old age.

Duncan:     You're not old enough to use that as an excuse, Mom.

Mom:         Why, that may be the nicest thing you have ever said to me, D.

Duncan:     You're missing the point.

Mom:         Sorry, what were we talking about?

Duncan:    YOUR DISORGANIZATION IS KILLING ME.

Duncan:    Breathe, buddy, breathe.

Duncan:     I took the liberty of hacking your Pinterest account and finding some printables for us.

Mom:         You hacked my account?

Duncan:     Ignore.  Ignore.

Duncan:     Take a look Mom.

Mom:         Ohhhhhh, look at that "What's cooking .... " page.  What font do you think they used?

Duncan:     This is so not going well.

From www.livinglocurto.com; get it here.

Duncan:      Mom, PLEASE focus on the blog planner.  The meal planner is pretty, but Dad can     feed himself if he has to.  This blog cannot write itself.  Remember the whole "paws on the keyboard" thing?  YOU HAVE TO FOCUS MOM.

Mom:          Are there treats involved?

How to be Dangerous by Duncan B.

Get it here.

Ok, puppers.  We're going to end our book week with a good one ... The Dangerous Book for Dogs, by Rex and Sparky, with the assistance of Joe Garden, Janet Ginsburg, Chris Pauls, Anita Serwacki, and Scott Sherman.

I can't believe my mom actually let me read this one, since it says in the forward that one of the reasons they wrote it was to put us puppers back in touch with our "thrill seeking roots."  I think we can all agree that I am pretty well in touch with my thrill seeking roots.  See previous "Dog Overboard" post.

To give you an idea of why I like this one so much here is a sampling of chapters included in the book:
  • A Connoisseur's Guide to Shoes
  • How to Escape Humiliating Costumes
  • Poop: An indelicate discussion
  • Foul Smells Every Dog Should Roll in
There is also a chapter on the The Formal Rules of Fetch:

And I quote "Humans are awarded points based on throw and dogs are awarded points based on retrieval.  Humans are awarded 5 points per one yard distance of throw.  A dog is awarded 37 points if the stick is returned within 10 minutes.  Humans earn 42 bonus points if stick is thrown again within 30 seconds of it being retrieved and dropped.  Dogs earn 154 points and 12 liver treats for catching a stick in midair."

Who knew??  Other than I think we should get 87 points if the stick is returned within 10 minutes, I think the rules are pretty fair.

There is also a section on "How to Make Your Owner Look Like an Idiot" but rather than discussing that here, one suggestion is to poop twice on the same walk because owners "never see it coming. Ever, Ever, Ever."  I think it would be in my best interest  (I have not been given my rawhide treat for the day yet) to leave the details of that chapter up to you to read should you so desire.  And, yes, I did read it.  My thrill seeking roots couldn't resist.

Ruby's look alike is in our book!!

Get it here

Stocking Stuffer alert ... this book is perfect for that and no it is not too early to start thinking about these things!!!

Today we want to share with you some thoughts on another book from our collection -- Dogplay written by Christine Montaquila with photographs (excellent photographs!!) by Kim Levin.

Imagine our surprise when we were flipping through the book and all of a sudden we saw Ruby!!

And then we saw the quote on the page to the left that seemed like totally something Ruby would say:

But then we realized that there was also a name on the page, Ozzey, and that this must be his philosophy too and that must be a picture of him, and not Ruby, in the book.

Upon further looking, it clearly is not Ruby.  The smile is not quite big enough, the eyes are not quite bright enough, there are no bubbles in the photo ....

But anywoof, we like the quote and we like the photo, we like the way they combine photos and quotes in this little gem of a book.

A couple of other quotes we like are "If life insists on handing you drama, be the star" and "Don't be afraid to occasionally be the punch line."

Not only do we like the quotes in this little diddy, mom also says the photography is inspiring her to aim a little higher for her blog photos.  (Oh, dear, why do I think this is going to involve moi? There better be treats involved.)

It dawns on me that if I were afraid to be the punch line, this blog would not exist!!

Get your JOY on ... and other wisdom from pups for peeps

Get it here
Here are some thoughts we have on "10 Spiritual Lessons You Can Learn From Your Dog" by Joanna Sandsmark.

I confess.  We bought this one because my look alike is on the cover.  And because we thought it would be a short read.  But, to our surprise, it is a longer read than we thought, and there are awesome pictures of all sorts of puppers in here.  This book is full of observations about us puppers that you people should really pay attention to in your own lives, such as (taken from the back cover of the book)  "Discover the benefit of clear communication" and "Allow yourself time to have fun and let go of your everyday worries" and "Learn when to play by the rules and when to break them."

PAY ATTENTION TO US PEOPLE,  WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE DOING!!!

Here is an example directly from the book:

"Simple Joy

Many people think that joy should be reserved for big events.  'If I get a promotion, then I'll be happy!' Or "Just wait until the baby is born - I won't be able to contain myself'.  That's to be expected, and of course you should show immense joy at big events.  But what about all those millions of small moments that get passed by while you're waiting for something big to happen?  Do you ever give them your due?

Acknowledging simple joys can make the difference between a person who is just existing and one who is living life to the fullest.  Think about your dog again and ask yourself if he is waiting for some enormous event - or is he just waiting for you to get home?  Do you think his joy would be any less because you were only gone for a few hours?  Your dog probably considers your homecoming a major highlight.  With all that wagging and happiness flowing out of him - how can you doubt it?  Just the sight of you is enough to rock his world!"

So, your job today, puppers, is to teach your peeps how to wag their whole body.  When you see them, try to get them to mimick you ... get them wagging, drooling, slobbering, kissy facing, jumping up and down and turning around in circles.  See if you can get them to do it, puppers.  Then set the flashy beast on video and try to get some live action you can share with us.  Imagine the smile THAT would bring to everybuddy's faces!!!

I am INFLUENTIAL. Who knew???

Woo hooooooo!  I got nominated for an award.  It's another FIRST for me!!!!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU to Finley and Chester who nominated me!

(And sorry for the delay in posting about it ... I blame it on my help.)

I would like to thank my fans, my mom, my dad ....

Oh, wait, I digress.

I am supposed to share my favorite song.  Unfortunately, I could not find a video to post.  Good help is hard to find in an assistant you know ...  Anywoof, my favorite song is from the movie Shaggy Dog and it is called "Every Dog Has It's Day".  It is by JaJa Biggs and you can find it on iTunes if you would like to give it a listen.

My favorite line is the repeated part throughout:
Every dog has it's day and mine is today ... yeah mine is today!

Mine is today, puppers.  Mine is today!

Pee S:  We are going to have to research 10 of our favorites who have not already been nominated ... we'll be getting back you on that part :)

Of course dogs can read ...

According to Ranger's Wacky Holiday List for this month, tomorrow is READ A BOOK day.

Why does everybody think we puppers can't actually read?  If we couldn't, why would there be so many books written about us?  What do you think we do all day while you are at the office??

Duh.

Anywoof, Mom and I put together a little collection of some of our favorites.  We read a lot right before we go to bed.

Next week we will share some of our favorite lines from some of our favorite books.

Stay tuned, puppers.  Stay tuned!
