Good Dog Design: Repurposing for dog lovers

Put your paws together for repurposing at it's finest!!!  Look at these puppers we found on etsy.  If you're into vintage and the like, we think you'll love this find as much as we do.

The one on the right is KIKI and check out her feet ... roller skate wheels ... quite a set of legs on that girl :)

Here's some more of her details:

measures: 12.5" tall, 7" wide and 12" long

Vintage English tins form the body and head
Antique French opera glass parts are the eyes
Signed and dated underneath

EVERY time my mom takes the Puperie on the road to an event the last words she hears my dad saying on the way out are "Don't bring home a dog!!!" Perhaps he'd let her have one of these?????

WOWZA! Dog Shoes for People

Well, my oh my, puppers.

Would you take a look at that.  Somebody has gone and designed some dog shoes for people.   Shoes made to look like one of us.  Are these cool or what????
Find them here

They are designed by Kobi Levy, who graduated from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design and who is now working as a freelance designer specializing in footwear design and development.  You can check out more of his designs here.  MUST GO LOOK.  He's got some AMAZING designs (like a banana peel, for instance) that you'll get a real kick out of.

It's definitely Monday...

Good Morning. Duncan's Mom here.  D wanted me to let you know that he is not going to be able to blog today.  He is on strike.  When I got out of the shower this morning and reached for my towel, it was gone.  D had grabbed it and was lounging comfortably (yes, he really did manage to cover himself up with it like a blankie as shown in the photo) as though a new week had not even started.  Denial at it's finest.  He is thinking if he lounges like it's Sunday and does not write a Monday blog, it will extend the weekend.

But the week HAS started.  And I am not sure how good this one is gonna be, to be honest.  My towel was dognapped.  My dog is on strike.  My picture loaded sideways.  Three "arghhhs" already and it's pretty early in the day.

Here's hoping the morning is only a fluke and not a precursor to the whole week!

FRIDAY FINDS: Dog Beds I'd like to try out sometime

Ok, so by now you all know that I sleep, for the most part, in a tub.  Or on a bed purchased at Walmart.

Not that there is anything wrong with it, but my mom was once an interior designer who in her past life would have FREAKED if the dog bed was primarily composed of old beach towels or was very plan and lacking in color.  I'm just saying  ...

me ... in my Walmart bed

Anywoof, on the off chance that I get to upgrade, I scoped out a few beds I'd like to give a trial run sometime:

1 - Hands down my favorite as far as design goes ... looks like I could really get tucked in with this one.  You can find it at PLAY.

2 - For those of us who like to rise above it all, the Royalty Bamboo Pet Bed found here gives us a little height and a little treat storage.

3 - Perfect for sleepovers, the bunk bed (found here) is for the modernist amongst us.  I call dibs on the top bunk, puppers.

4 - Probably the one I would most likely ever get, knowing my mom's taste and knowing that is what it really all comes down to, this Harry Barker eco-friendly bed can be picked up right here.

And, here is one I would have loved to have gotten my hands on.  We saw it here where people help make projects become a reality.  Unfortunately, it looks like they didn't get the money to make this one happen.  If my Olympic dreams had come true and I had gotten some endorsements out of the deal, I'd have invested in this one for sure.  Seriously.  Who doesn't need a hammock bed.  I get all relaxed just thinkin' about it.

And with that I think I am off to take a nap puppers!

Now THAT is a dog gate!

We first saw this here.

In my house, it took about 16 months and  30 seconds for me to figure out that NO means NO.

Really.

So how about THIS dog gate.  I think it would probably stop me dead in my tracks. Four on the floor, as we like to say.

At least the first time.

That NO looks like it means it!

To learn more about it go here.

Tiny Dog Speakers: Two Paws Up

Source

Typing to the tune of  "Who let the dogs out ...."

Well CHECK ME OUT.

I am so cute, they made a speaker out of me.  A tiny little portable speaker hand made out of apricot wood.  Cute, yes?  They are rechargeable via a USB port and have a standard jack to attach to audio devices. Perfect for playlist playing at puppy patio pawties.

NO, I did not get a free set for modeling for them.  YES, I will be adding them to my holiday wish list.

Note to Mom ... you can get them for me here.

Dogs are Forever

Or at least this one is:
Allow me to introduce Owney, The Postal Dog.  Wonder Dog here is now a forever dog, or at least a forever stamp, anyhow.

According to the USPS website .... "In the 1880s, during the height of the Railway Mail Service, clerks in the Post Office in Albany, New York, took a liking to a terrier mix named Owney. Fond of riding in postal wagons, Owney followed mailbags onto trains and soon became a good-luck charm to Railway Mail Service employees, who made him their unofficial mascot. Working in the Railway Mail Service was highly dangerous: According to the National Postal Museum, more than 80 mail clerks were killed in train wrecks and more than 2,000 were injured between 1890 and 1900. However, it was said that no train ever met with trouble while Owney was aboard."

Ok, sounds like he is worthy of being on a stamp, me thinks.  That's really saying something as we all well know that I hardly think anybody is more worthy than me.  For anythinng.  Ever.

I've also heard they liked the pupper so much they kept him after his demise (uh, huh, really) and you can see him on display at The Smithsonian.

Note to mom:  I don't need to be on display, no matter how much they beg.

Or, you could just buy some stamps, if that would be easier.

Maybe I'll try modeling???

IMAGE VIA BEAST

IMAGE VIA BEAST

So  check out these dudes.  THEY ARE MODELS.  The pics here are all about the HATS and not the PUPPERS.

Given the "all about moi" mind set that I generally wake up with every morning, I had a conflicted reaction when I ran across these shots.  Such good looking dogs and they are not the be all end all here????

But then, wait for it ..... BRILLIANT.

Next thing you know, we are gonna be on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, pups. The Next Top Model, if you will.

These pictures were shot by Joseph Dawson and Jonathan Paine. (All the caps are available now at The Chimp Store.)  I am thinking of giving the photographers a call. If you've been reading for long, you know that I once had aspirations to become an Olympic diver.  If you have not been reading for long, then you know by the fact that you have never heard of this particular career of mine that it never really took off.  Or made a big splash, if you will.

Anywoof, I am still looking for a way to keep myself in the higher quality puppy chow I feel I so deserve and am thinking modeling may be the way to go. Yes???

Oh, what a day!!!!

WOWZA!

We don't have a NO NO FRIDAY.

I made it an ENTIRE WEEK on good behavior.

And for that I get to head to the dog park today.

Looks like it's gonna be a good weekend, puppers.

Looks like it's gonna be a good one!

Doggie Decor: Wish I could take credit for this one.

Oh, boy, do I wish my mom and I were cool enough to be able to claim we found these and blogged about them first.  Alas, we have to give the credit to our friends over at Under The Blanket ... we saw it there first.

If you have not checked them out, you should. Because anybody who finds cool dog things like decorative hinges for your doors deserves a little traffic flow over to their blog.

Really, door hinges?  Who'd have thunk it?

We've now officially seen everything, yes???

Find them here, at Hingeheads.

Be Funky: Dog Photography Fun

Oh, my.  Mom is playing with her photos again!!!

You know by now that we are big fans of Picnik, but a pupper friend of mine who also is a blogger recommended a new one to us.  BE FUNKY.  I mean, really, with a name like that, we had to try it, right???

First we tried creating a painting from a photo.  We used a photo from last week so you could see the difference.

Next up, we played around with some of their frames.  They have lots to choose from.  We like this one ... only bad on us for not centering the picture in it before saving it.  Live and learn, puppers, live and learn.

And,  just because we could, we played around with the ""patriotic" effects.  We think
this one is pretty fun!!!

I look good in stars, yes???

Be Funky may be our "go to" for playing around with our photos now.  It's free unless you want to upgrade for premium effects like the one above.

Fun, fun puppers!

Wordle: Crafts for Pet Lovers

So mom and I decided to try our hand at crafting again.

Allow us to introduce you to Wordle ... a website that builds word clouds like the one above.  Our plan was to create a design to use on a new totebag for moi to use when have I sleepover camp.  Mom was in her "Martha" mode, so of course we were aiming for stylish and also personalized so everybody would know it was mine.

Little did we know, you can't just print out a Wordle.  We ended up doing a screen print (shown above) and then putting it into an editing program (Illustrator in our case) to clean up the parts we didn't want.  After a little tweaking, it looked like this:

Next up, print it out on transfer paper.  We ALWAYS use Avery paper, but if you have another you prefer, go for it.  Don't forget to REVERSE your image when you print.

After you get it printed out the way you want it, trim it around the edges as closely as you can.
And, no, I have  no idea why this picture looks so different than the clearer one above.  Arghhh.

Next up, have your dog do some serious quality control on the tote bag you plan to use.  Leave no corner un-inspected!

Last step, do some ironing. We recommend following the instructions on the package exactly.  Oh, and keep the dog away from the iron.

Wa-la ... totebag!

Fun for a cause

So over the weekend Mom and I decided to do some fun stuff we have heard about and share it with you on the blog this week.

For instance, studies have shown that some of the happiest dog and owner pairs share similar features, personality traits, even body types.

That's why The Pedigree Adoption Drive and NEC developed Doggelgänger; human to canine pairing software, designed to connect homeless dogs to their human doubles.

(Those two blurbs were stolen directly from the website, by the way.)

The way it works is that you upload a picture of a human face and then they run this cool program to find a dog that looks like you ... a dog and their human,  you know.

Imagine my surprise when this is what turned up with Mom's picture:

I guess there must not have been any Westies that needed homes, because otherwise surely Mom would have gotten paired up with a moi dog, yes???

The program operates in New Zealand, but maybe they will come up with something similar here soon.

Fun, fun, puppers.

NO NO FRIDAY

Heads up, puppers.

When your mama has made a rare attempt at being frugal and minding the family budget by checking out a book from the library rather than buying it the minute it hits the stands ... DON'T EAT THE BOOK.

Apparently said consumption results in a fine which might actually be higher than the cost of going out and buying the book in the first place.

You mean to tell me the library doesn't get a volume discount???

Anywoof, stay away from the loaners, puppers.  Stay away from the loaners.
